Gifted at Luray Middle School is called Challenge, and is an elective class that meets every other day, for 42 minutes. Challenge is taught by Mrs. Lawrence-Litten. Mrs. Litten has been teaching Gifted students for over 12 years.
Welcome to the 2016 - 2017 school year! I am excited to introduce many new programs. The biggest change this year is the addition of a Gifted Data Progress sheet. Your child will receive this sheet along with their regular report card, at the end of each semester. It measures his/hers academic and social success in the Gifted classroom. I hope this will be an excellent evaluation tool of your child’s gifts, and a way that you, the parent, can understand and nurture them.
Another program, which I am thrilled to share with you, is the start of the Unmasking the Gifted lessons that will be given to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Students will be given lessons each year for the next three years. These lessons have been created by Mrs. Weakley and I, to focus only on Gifted students and to address their unique needs. These gifted lessons are designed to help your child understand his/her exceptional needs so that they can grow confident in their self-esteem, self image and closer to their fellow Gifted students. Parents interested in learning more about the topics of the lessons please feel free to contact me.
Want to Help Your Child's GT Class?
Want to help out your child’s Gifted classroom? Mrs. Litten is always looking for cool "art supplies" that you may have sitting around your house that you are not using. What kind of art supplies? Plastic lids, toliet paper rolls, buttons, plastic cups, paper towel rolls, empty yogurt cups, anything that can be recycled into something else! It's amazing what a little imagination and engineering can create. Thanks so much!
